| THE BEGINNING
A&S Building Systems was the creation of two men in the late 1940’s
to supply the west Texas
grain storage business metal building systems. In 1950, in Amarillo,
Texas, A&S was formally
incorporated, bearing the initials of its two founders, Bill Attebury
and Will Schroeder, thus
A&S Steel Buildings. Having experienced successful growth in the
grain storage business, Mr.
Attebury and Mr. Schroeder expanded the A&S Building Systems market
into the booming oil
fields, along the Gulf of Mexico coast, then into the commercial and
industrial markets in the
southwest and southeastern United States. This success led to moving
the operation to Houston,
Texas in 1961.
In the 1970’s, to better serve the dynamic growth of A&S Building
Systems in the southeastern
United States market, a manufacturing facility was built in Caryville,
Tennessee. Caryville is
located approximately thirty-five miles north of Knoxville, Tennessee
along Interstate 75. In
1972, A&S Building Systems was acquired by a large industrial conglomerate,
U.S. Industries,
Inc. U.S. Industries, Inc. was itself acquired by a major international
industrial conglomerate,
Hanson Industries, in July 1984. During this period of time, due to
the declining economy in
Texas and the southwest, the decision was made to close the facility
in Houston, Texas and move
the corporate offices to Caryville, Tennessee.
A&S Building Systems has enjoyed a long history of being a major
supplier in the metal building
systems industry. Over the years, the name has evolved into A&S
Building Systems, L.P.
THE PRESENT
As A&S Building Systems, Inc.
continues to establish itself in the eastern United States metal
building system market, NCI Building
Systems has become a dominant metal building
conglomerate, acquiring companies in various levels in the metal building
system markets chain
of supply. Since NCI Building Systems acquired A&S Building Systems
in 1992, growth
potentials of both companies has dramatically increased. For the first
time since the founders
sold A&S Building Systems, it is owned and managed by individuals
familiar and cognizant with
the metal building system market and its idiosyncrasies. Market understanding,
and prudent
investment into A&S Building Systems, L.P.’s infra-structure, has
afforded A&S Building
Systems,Inc. a very efficient and profitable growth.
Today, A&S Building Systems, Inc. continues to out perform other
metal building suppliers in
the construction industry. It’s markets have immensely expanded through
its ability to produce
products in the various 39 NCI manufacturing facilities and its reliance
on the chain of supply
afforded by the parent company, NCI Building Systems. The talented
people at the Caryville,
Tennessee office providing incomparable levels of service has reinforced
this expansion.
THE FUTURE
Acquisitions of sister companies, MBCI,
DBCI,
and Insulated Panel Systems,
will provide new
product offerings for A&S Building Systems, Inc.. and its network
of authorized builders, which
extends from coast to coast. New additional superior products to produce
and sell which
translate into greater opportunities and growth for A&S Building
Systems, Inc. is an obvious
advantage. However the real advantages are for A&S’s builder network.
Anytime additional
products are offered, it creates additional selling features that the
builder’s customer might
desire, but which most competitors can not provide. By being a single
source of supply, the
A&S builder possesses more selling power. A&S Building Systems,
Inc. understands that the
more its customers succeed, the more A&S will succeed. It is indeed
a “Team Effort.”
The future of A&S Building Systems, Inc. becomes brighter and more
exciting each year.
